FLORANZA® Eye Popping

To start off 2022, we feature an award-winning rose from the latest round of results from the New Zealand Rose Society trials in Palmerston North. FLORANZA® Eye Popping is a very floriferous rose with masses of single blooms starting yellow and fading to white with a red/purple ‘eye’ to the blooms.  At times, you can’t see the foliage by the sheer masse of blooms which repeat well throughout the summer and into autumn.  A very … [Read more...]

Cutie Pie

Miniature /Patio Roses are the small flowering darlings of the rose world. This month, we feature a new release that is very well named for this type of rose. ‘Cutie Pie’ has masses of small blooms of an attractive coral peach color that are lightly scented. These cover the bushy, very compact plant which is clothed in glossy medium green foliage. Good disease tolerance.  Great to grow in small spaces, in a pot or as a short standard. Bred … [Read more...]

December – Magic Show

With the rose show season just about over for another year, we are featuring one of the best newer roses for exhibition but also makes a good garden rose. ‘Magic Show’ is a patio rose with very well formed blooms of white with a pink edge to the petals. The blooms are borne mostly solitary and like most patio roses, have little in the way of a scent.  But for picking, it is fantastic and makes a great short standard to ‘lift’ it up off the … [Read more...]

September – Water Lily

After a number of years of few new introductions of patio type roses in the New Zealand market, it is pleasing to see some new varieties coming online. One such variety we’re featuring this month is ‘Waterlily’ which features delicate blooms of porcelain to creamy peach of classic form. There is a moderate perfume to the blooms which are produced in large clusters.  Reaching 45cm in height, ‘Waterlily’ is very healthy with semi-glossy, medium … [Read more...]

August – Picotee

The ‘hand painted’ roses first appeared with much excitement in the 1970’s, a result of breeding work by Sam McGredy. In recent years, there has been a renaissance in the hand painted area with several newer hand painted roses appearing on the market and we feature one of the best this month. ‘Picotee’ is a patio rose with blooms of pink edged white blooms with a white reverse. It is very free flowering with blooms produced in clusters … [Read more...]

February – Beehive Gold

This month we feature a bright  yellow, non-fading patio rose, something not commonly found in the world of roses. Since its release in 2000, it has become a popular addition to the range of patio roses grown in New Zealand. ‘Beehive Gold’ has clusters of bright yellow, double blooms all summer long. It is an eye catching addition to any garden or container and is also good grown as a standard. It is easy to grow with dark green foliage, good … [Read more...]
