September – Patio Jewel

Everyone loves a red rose so this month we feature not a ‘big’ rose, but one of the best red patio roses that is grown.

Patio roses have smaller blooms with the rest of the plant in proportion making them ideal for smaller gardens and growing in containers.

Good red patio roses are not common, most are either an orange-red or pink red but Patio Jewel is a true crimson scarlet red. The perfectly formed blooms are produced all summer long and are good for picking. Generally, Patio Jewel is a trouble free rose to grow in any garden. Combine with other patio roses or other low growing garden plants around it.

Bred in the United States by Bill Warriner where it goes under the name of ‘Little Sizzler’ Available as both a bush and in standard form in garden centres and specialist rose nurseries around New Zealand.
