November – Hansa

This month as the roses start blooming across New Zealand, we feature a heritage rose which is one of the best in the rugosa classification. Rugosa roses are easy to grow untroubled by disease, can grow near the sea and have fragrant blooms often followed by colourful hips. December – Ferdinand Pitchard

The striped roses are either liked or loathed. On the one hand, they are a novelty in the rose world but on the other, the combination of colours may not appeal. Heritage Rose Garden – Christchurch

Located adjacent to Christchurch Hospital in Hagley Park, the garden was established in 1950 and remodelled in 1999. It has an extensive collection of roses underplanted and interspersed with a range of other garden plants.
