Another tried and true rose features this month, one that has stood the test of time since its introduction in the late 1970’s
Strawberry Ice has always attracted attention where ever it has been grown. A floribunda with clusters of cream white blooms edged rose pink, it is distinctive from all others. In full bloom, it is a great sight. It also does well in a vase.
Complementing the blooms is the large, dark green foliage which is very healthy and covers the plant. It is a strong grower that does spread a little wider than usual so give it a little more room in the garden. Good anywhere in the garden or enjoy it higher up as a standard. A mass planting would also be a stunning sight.
Bred by the famous French breeders Delbard, it won a Gold Star of the South Pacific at the NZRS trials in Palmerston North in 1978 and remains popular with members around NZ. It is a parent of Raspberry Ice.
hi my Dad who passed away loved this rose (strawberry ice) and it was so old, it died. i tried to get a piece of it going but didn’t work. can i still buy this rose? if so, how much would it be and i live in West Auckland if you need to know where i am, looking forward to your answer, Kind Regards, Sharron
Looking for a rose to plant as an edging border – but cannot decide between Strawberry Ice and Raspberry Ice! The site gets sun all day and is fairly exposed – which one would be most suitable? I live in the foothills North Canterbury and get hard frosts.
Many thanks
