This month we feature one of the most successful new rose introductions into New Zealand in the last 20 years and has become an integral part of the rose landscape in our country. It was also the first in what has become the biggest selling range of roses in New Zealand with two million plants sold in that time
‘Flower Carpet ® Pink’ was the first of the popular Flower Carpet series to be released by Anthony Tesselaar Plants of Australia and is probably the best overall in terms of performance, although the white remains the biggest seller in New Zealand . The bright pink colour might not be everyone’s taste but it sure stands out from anything else with blooming throughout the summer months and well into autumn. It is also self-cleaning so requires a quick cut back in winter to keep it looking good the following season
Health wise, the plant is exceptional with great tolerance (as expected) from common diseases. The plant is a vigorous grower and will perform even under less than ideal conditions. It can also sometimes be trained as a low climber. Looks good planted en masse or mixed in with other garden plants
Like all the Flower Carpet series, it has been bred by Weiner Noack of Germany from ‘Immense’ x ‘Amanda’. It is a winner of three international trial ground awards including the prestigious ADR award in Germany in which roses are trialled for three years without any spraying. Well worth growing as a landscape and garden rose.
