In his long career in rose breeding, Sam McGredy named many roses after places in his adopted homeland of New Zealand.
Kaikoura is one of these and has gone on to become very popular with rose enthusiasts around New Zealand and has a reputation as a top rose for entering into rose shows. Kaikoura often features among the champion miniature type blooms at National Rose Shows in New Zealand
Best described as brick red in colour, Kaikoura produces clusters of blooms all season long on a strong growing plant with bronzy red new foliage. It is generally healthy and makes a good standard.
Named for the seaside town on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand, famous for its whale watching.
Bred from Anytime x Matangi, Kaikoura ranks 2nd among Miniature/Patio roses as voted by New Zealand Rose Society members for 2009.
