We kick off 2010 by featuring the climbing rose Compassion, probably the 2nd most popular climbing rose grown in New Zealand behind the great Dublin Bay.Compassion is what every good climbing rose should be – vigorous but not too vigorous, well covered with foliage, excellent disease tolerance and plenty of flowers in an attractive salmon pink with apricot yellow at the base. It repeats well throughout the season so what more could you ask for of a rose? Well, it is also very fragrant and has won awards all over the world for its wonderful fragrance.
Very easy to grow and worthy of a place in every garden where it will give great pleasure. It consistently rates well with members of the New Zealand Rose society who rate it at No 3 in their list of best climbing roses for 2009.
Bred by Harkness of England and introduced in 1973, it has stood the test of time all over the world.
