The David Austin or English roses have become very popular around the world including here in New Zealand where they were first introduced over 30 years ago.
This month we feature one of the popular varieties grown in many countries.
Golden Celebration is a deep yellow rose with large full cupped blooms in the old world style covering the plant all season long. An easy to grow variety with plenty of vigour so could also be trained as a climber against fences, pergolas and walls. Like many Austin roses, it is strongly fragrant with a delicious fruity scent. It is easy to grow and great to grow with other garden plants – blue and purple flowering plants would look stunning planted with Golden Celebration.
Introduced by David Austin in 1992 and bred from Charles Austin x Abraham Darby, it is ranked 6th in the top shrub roses by members of the New Zealand Rose Society. One worth growing in any garden.
