Waikato rosarian Janet Pike was presented with life membership of the New Zealand Rose Society at its recent Annual General Meeting in Christchurch.
Janet joined the Waikato Rose Society in 1978 and continues to be an active member to the present day, currently serving as their President. The Frank Penn Memorial Award for service to a district rose society was presented to Janet in 2018.
In 2013, Janet was elected to the New Zealand Rose Society Council and has been part of the Exhibitions/Judging and Conventions subcommittee. Serving as National President from 2018 – 21, the second half of Janet’s time as President saw many events cancelled due to the pandemic. Janet kept in touch with many rosarians around New Zealand by email and phone calls during this unsettling time.
Janet has attended many National Rose Shows and has been involved with organising such shows when hosted by the Waikato Rose Society. Janet exhibits her roses to a high standard, especially miniature type roses. She also exhibits her roses around rose shows in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty regions and is a strong supporter of the Upper North Island Rose Ranfurly.
