Yellow is a hard colour to find in climbing roses and even harder to get a good all round performer. Good as Gold is just such a rose which we are featuring for this month.
Good as Gold is a patio climber, with smaller flowers reminiscent of the patio/miniature type roses and is well named, bearing clusters of golden yellow blooms throughout summer and into autumn. A stunning sight when in bloom, it makes a bright and colourful display when grown against a wall, pergola or other structure. Generally trouble free with disease, the dense dark green foliage makes a great back drop to the blooms.
Bred in England by Chris Warner, it is one of a number of his patio climbing roses which perform very well in New Zealand. A Gold Star winner at the NZRS rose trials in Palmerston North, it is well worth considering if you want a yellow flowering climbing rose to brighten up a spot in your garden.
