After being delayed a year due to Covid, the National Spring Rose Show will take place on November 26th – 28th 2021 at the Palmerston North Conference and Function Centre.
The theme of the show will be ‘Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow’ with the special classes in the show reflecting this theme. There will also be a display celebrating 50 years of the International Rose Trials Grounds and displays also from leading rose nurseries, local floral art groups, the Palmerston North Horticultural Society and Heritage Roses New Zealand.
Show will be open to the public:
Saturday 27th November 11.30am – 5pm
Sunday 28th November 10am – 4pm.
Admission $5 adults, under 16 free with accompanying adult
There will be rose plants for sale including the new variety ‘Pride of Palmy’ (pictured below)

1.15pm – 2.00pm Judges debrief
2.00pm Official opening by the Mayor of Palmerston North Grant Smith
3.00pm – 4pm Rose Breeders Panel Discussion featuring Rob Somerfield, Samantha Matthews, Doug Grant, John Ford and Hamish Cheetham. This will be open to the public.
4pm – 4.45pm Presentation on biological control of rose pests by Chris Thompson, Bioforce
6.30pm Pre dinner drinks and prize giving
7pm Dinner and Entertainment
Sunday 28th November
10am – 4pm Show open to the public
8.45am Bus trip departs Copthorne Hotel
9am Greenhaugh Gardens
10.30am Garden of John & Chris Ford
12 noon Depart Ford Garden
12.30pm Arrive Esplanade for Trial Ground Judging
1 – 2pm Lunch in Rose Gardens
2pm Trial Ground Awards in Rose Gardens
2.30pm Afternoon Tea
3.30pm Bus trip arrives back at Conference Centre
If wet, lunch, awards and afternoon tea would be held at the Conference Centre.
Dinner at local restaurant (own cost)
Monday 29th November 9am – 2pm Bus trip to Matthews Nurseries including lunch. Trip will return to Copthorne Hotel via Palmerston North airport. Please book flights to depart after 4pm.
